Beheler, Kaylin Austen, and Tiffany Milburn,
three members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s volleyball team, have
swept the weekly American Mideast Conference
and NAIA Region IX Player, Setter, and
Libero of the Week honors respectively for
their performances in matches played from
October 8-14.
Beheler,
a 5-foot-10 senior middle hitter from
Butler, Ohio, received the AMC and NAIA
Region IX Player of the Week honor for the
third straight week. She was also selected
as the NAIA National Player of the Week for
the second time in three weeks and the third
time in her career as she becomes the first
student-athlete in school history to be so
honored in any sport. In addition, she was
chosen as the National Christian College
Athletic Association Player of the Week.
For the week, Beheler averaged 5.47
kills, 2.27 digs, and 1.27 blocks per game
as the Lady Cougars went 5-0 for the week.
The former Fredericktown High School star
began the week with 24 kills and six blocks
in a sweep of defending conference champion
Walsh University to remain unbeaten in AMC
South Division play. Then, she was named the
Most Valuable Player of the Papa John’s
Invitational as she helped MVNU to four
straight wins that included 25 kills and 12
digs in a sweep of Taylor (Ind.) University
and 17 kills and 13 digs in an upset of then
17th-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) University.
On the season, Beheler leads the team in
kills per game (4.58) and blocks per game
(1.58) and ranks 15th and 16th among the
NAIA national leaders in those categories
respectively. She has also registered 266
digs, 30 aces, and a .942 serve reception
percentage. For her career, she ranks second
in school history in kills (2,487) and
blocks (876), third in aces (191), seventh
in serve attempts (2,566), ninth in serve
reception attempts (2,127) and 14th in digs
(1,367).
Austen,
a 5-foot-7 sophomore setter from Shelby,
Ohio, was selected as the AMC and NAIA
Region IX Setter of the Week for the second
time in three weeks. She averaged 13.31
assists per game and 1.56 digs per game
during the Lady Cougars’ 5-0 week and she
was selected to the Papa John’s Invitational
All-Tournament Team.
In MVNU’s sweep of Walsh, Austen handed
out 50 assists. The former Shelby High
School standout piled up 53 assists in the
sweep of Taylor, which is the highest
three-game total in school history. She
added 46 assists in the comeback win over
Campbellsville, and she tallied 42 assists
in a sweep of Trinity Christian (Ill.)
College.
On the season, Austen has registered a
career-high 1,038 assists and ranks 26th in
the NAIA with an average of 11.53 assists
per game. She has also compiled 27 aces, 42
kills, and 32 blocks. She leads the team
with a .960 serving percentage and she had
her school-record streak of 133 consecutive
serves without an error come to an end on
her final serve attempt versus
Campbellsville.
Milburn,
a 5-foot-6 senior libero from Centerburg,
Ohio, was honored as the AMC and NAIA Region
IX Libero of the Week for the first time
this season after earning the honor twice
last year. She averaged 3.81 digs for the
week and committed just two errors on 106
serve reception attempts for a .981 serve
reception percentage. She also served up 10
aces in 16 games and she was named to the
Papa John’s Invitational All-Tournament
Team.
Milburn had three matches with
double-figure digs during the Lady Cougars’
5-0 week. The former Centerburg High School
product posted 20 digs in the sweep of
Taylor and added 18 digs and four aces as
MVNU rallied from two games down and a 14-11
deficit in the fifth game to defeat
Campbellsville. She also contributed 12 digs
and three aces in the win over Trinity
Christian.
On the season, Milburn leads the Lady
Cougars with 485 digs and a .948 serve
reception percentage that consists of just
32 errors in 621 serve reception attempts.
She has also served up 36 aces. For her
career, she ranks first in school history in
serve reception attempts (3,371), third in
digs (2,241), eighth in aces (180), and
ninth in serve attempts (2,326).
MVNU is currently 26-1 overall and in
first place in the AMC South Division with
an 8-0 conference mark. The Lady Cougars,
who have won 14 straight matches, are ranked
17th in the latest NAIA poll - the highest
ranking in the program’s successful history.
The team will compete in the five-team
Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College Tournament
this weekend with three of the matches also
counting towards the NCCAA East Region
title. On Friday, MVNU will take on Geneva
(Pa.) College at 6:00 p.m. and Malone
College at 8:00 p.m. Then, on Saturday, the
Lady Cougars will face Roberts Wesleyan at
10:00 a.m. and Carlow (Pa.) University at
noon.
