Courtney Springer, a member
of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University
women’s volleyball team, has been selected
as the National Christian College Athletic
Association Player of the Week for her
performance during the week of October
15-21.
Springer,
a sophomore outside hitter from Van Wert,
Ohio, averaged 3.50 kills, 2.93 digs, and
0.64 blocks per game as the Lady Cougars
posted a 5-0 record during the week and
captured their 16th NCCAA East Region title
in the past 17 years while also reaching the
30-win mark for the 15th consecutive season.
Springer pounded 14 kills with five
blocks against Geneva (Pa.) College, had 12
kills and 11 digs versus Urbana University,
ripped 11 kills against Roberts Wesleyan
(N.Y.) College, and registered nine kills
and 10 digs versus Malone College. The
former Crestview High School star posted a
.406 attack percentage and a .982 serve
percentage.
On the season, Springer ranks second on
the team with 298 kills to go with 326 digs,
72 blocks, 61 assists, and 31 aces. She has
also posted a .295 attack percentage, a .941
serve percentage, and a .936 serve reception
percentage.
MVNU is currently 32-1 overall and ranked
15th in the latest NAIA national poll - the
highest ranking in the program’s history.
The Lady Cougars, who have won 20 straight
matches, have also clinched at least a share
of the American Mideast Conference South
Division title with two conference matches
left and a 10-0 record. The team will return
to action on Saturday with a non-conference
tri-match at Malone College. MVNU will take
on the Lady Pioneers at noon and Houghton
(N.Y.) College at 2:00 p.m.
