For the
second straight week, Shena Beheler, a
member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s volleyball team, has been
selected as the American Mideast Conference
and NAIA Region IX Player of the Week this
time for her performance in matches played
from October 1-7.
Beheler,
a 5-foot-10 senior middle hitter from
Butler, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to a 3-0
record for the week as she averaged 5.57
kills, 3.86 digs, and 1.57 blocks for the
week with a .442 attack percentage. The
former Fredericktown High School star
pounded 17 kills with 11 digs and three
blocks in a sweep at Shawnee State
University. She added 18 kills, 11 digs, and
six blocks in a sweep at the University of
Rio Grande. Then, she recorded four kills,
five digs, and two blocks in just one game
as MVNU swept Central State University.
On the season, Beheler leads the Lady
Cougars in kills (311) and blocks (110) and
is second in aces (28) and digs (219). She
has a team-best .329 attack percentage and a
team-leading .943 serve reception
percentage.
For her career, the two-time NAIA
Honorable Mention All-American ranks second
in school history in career kills (2,395)
and blocks (847), fourth in career aces
(189), and fourteenth in career digs
(1,320).
MVNU is currently 20-1 overall and ranked
23rd in the latest NAIA national poll. The
Lady Cougars are also 6-0 in the AMC South
Division. The team will return to action on
Thursday when MVNU will host Walsh
University, the defending AMC South Division
champs who also received votes in this
week’s poll, in a conference match at 7:00
p.m. in the Physical Education Center.
