Shena Beheler, a senior middle hitter
from Butler, Ohio, highlighted the list for
the Lady Cougars as she earned a spot on the
AMC South Division First Team for the third
straight season and was selected as the AMC
South Division Player of the Year. The
former Fredericktown High School star leads
MVNU with 624 kills and 212 blocks, and she
has also compiled 36 aces and 434 digs. For
her career, she ranks second in school
history in kills (2,708), blocks (949), and
serve attempts (2,799), fourth in aces
(197), and ninth in digs (1,535) and serve
reception attempts (2,247).
Courtney Springer, a sophomore outside
hitter from Van Wert, Ohio, joined Beheler
on the six-player AMC South Division First
Team. The former Crestview High School
standout has compiled 379 kills, 419 digs,
95 blocks, 72 assists, and 40 aces so far
this season. She has also posted a .940
serve reception percentage.
Tiffany Milburn, a senior libero from
Centerburg, Ohio, was named to the AMC South
Division Second Team. The former Centerburg
High School product leads the Lady Cougars
with 731 digs, 59 aces, and 1,021 serve
reception attempts. For her career, she
ranks first in school history in serve
reception attempts (3,771), second in digs
(2,487), third in aces (203), and eighth in
serve attempts (2,561).
Kaylin Austen, a sophomore setter from
Shelby, Ohio, was an AMC South Division
Honorable Mention pick. The former Shelby
High School star has registered 1,655
assists in her first season as a starter.
She has also compiled 63 kills, 37 aces, 52
blocks, and 277 digs while posting a .959
serving percentage.
Audrey Hickinbotham, a junior outside
hitter from Mansfield, Ohio, was also an AMC
South Division Honorable Mention selection.
The former Mansfield Christian High School
product has recorded 344 kills, 186 digs, 48
aces, and 43 blocks this season.
Jackie Albrecht, a freshman middle hitter
from Lexington, Ohio, was named to the AMC
South Division All-Freshmen Team as well as
being an AMC South Division Honorable
Mention pick. The former Mansfield Christian
High School standout has contributed 362
kills, 367 digs, 140 blocks, and 20 aces.
Head
coach Paul Swanson (left) was
selected as the AMC South Division Coach of
the Year after guiding the Lady Cougars to a
39-2 overall record, a No. 13 NAIA ranking,
and the AMC South Division regular-season
title with an 11-1 mark. This is the fifth
time that Swanson has been named the
conference Coach of the Year and seventh
time that he has led an MVNU team to a
conference title.
The Lady Cougars, who captured the
AMC/NAIA Region IX Tournament championship
this past weekend, have earned an automatic
berth in the NAIA National Tournament that
will be held November 28-December 1 at
Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri. The
tournament pool play pairings and match
times will be announced on November 18.
