MVNU Lands Two Soccer Players on CoSIDA Academic Teams

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (11-21-2007) - Chris Mast and Matt Wilging, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team, were recently honored when the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV College Division Teams were announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Mast, a sophomore midfielder from Smithville, Ohio, finished the season with three goals and two assists while playing in all 22 matches. The former Central Christian High School star has posted a 4.00 grade point average in the classroom where he is an accounting and business administration double major. He was the lone sophomore selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV First Team.

Wilging, a senior defender from Mansfield, Ohio, was named to the ESPN The Magazine All-District IV Second Team. The former Mansfield Christian High School standout played in 21 matches with one goal and one assist. A biology major, Wilging has posted a 3.77 grade point average.

MVNU finished the year with a 14-5-3 overall record that included a third-place finish at the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV College Division teams are selected by members of CoSIDA. Eligible student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 grade point average and be at least in their sophomore year. The District IV College Division is made up of NCAA Division II and III and NAIA schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee.
