Ben Falkenberg, a member of
the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s
basketball team, has been selected as the
National Christian College Athletic
Association Player of the Week for his
performance during the week of November
5-11.
Falkenberg,
a 5-foot-11 junior guard from Wadsworth,
Ohio, averaged 24.0 points, 4.0 assists, 2.5
steals, and 2.0 rebounds as the Cougars
began the year with a pair of victories. In
a 103-69 win over previously unbeaten
Cincinnati Christian University, the former
Wadsworth High School star scored a
game-high 27 points in just 23 minutes as he
went 7-for-9 from three-point range. He
added 21 points and five steals in a 73-61
victory over Spring Arbor (Mich.) University
as MVNU rallied from a 10-point first-half
deficit to hand Spring Arbor its first loss
of the year.
On the season, Falkenberg is averaging
20.7 points, 4.0 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and
1.7 steals per game. He is shooting 54.5
percent from the field (24-for-44) and 50.0
percent from three-point range (14-for-28).
He has also moved into ninth place in school
history with 242 career three-pointers made.
The Cougars are currently 3-0 overall and
ranked 19th in the NAIA Division II
preseason poll. MVNU will return to action
on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. when the Cougars
will host NCAA Division II Ashland
University in non-conference action in the
Physical Education Center.
