Shena Beheler, a member of
the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s
volleyball team, was recently selected as
the American Mideast Conference and NAIA
Region IX Player of the Week for her
performance in matches played during the
week of October 22-28. This was the fourth
time in the past five weeks that Beheler has
earned these honors.
Beheler,
a senior middle hitter from Butler, Ohio,
led the Lady Cougars to a 4-0 record for the
week as the former Fredericktown High School
star averaged 5.29 kills, 4.29 digs, and
1.36 blocks per game. In a victory over
Cedarville University, Beheler smashed 24
kills with 14 digs and four blocks. She
added 27 kills, 18 digs, and four blocks in
a win at Ohio Dominican University. Then,
she closed out the week with 12 kills, 15
digs, and seven blocks in a sweep at Malone
College, and 11 kills, 13 digs, and four
blocks in a sweep of Houghton (N.Y.)
College.
On the season, Beheler leads MVNU with
562 kills and 192 blocks. She has also
compiled 35 aces and 385 digs. She ranks
second in school history in career kills
(2,646) and career blocks (929), third in
career aces (196) and career serve attempts
(2,729), ninth in career serve reception
attempts (2,203), and eleventh in career
digs (1,486).
The Lady Cougars are currently 35-2
overall and ranked 13th in the latest NAIA
poll - the highest ranking in the program’s
successful history. MVNU, which won the AMC
South Division regular-season title with an
11-1 mark, will host the six-team AMC/NAIA
Region IX Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Friday’s action will feature pool play
with the Lady Cougars facing Point Park
(Pa.) University at 11:00 a.m. and Malone
College at 3:30 p.m. Malone and Point Park
will square off at 1:15 p.m. The other pool
will start with Notre Dame College versus
Cedarville University at 11:00 a.m. Then,
Cedarville will square off with Walsh
University at 1:15 p.m. followed by Notre
Dame versus Walsh at 3:30 p.m. The top two
teams in both pools will advance to the
single-elimination semifinals on Saturday
with the winner of the tournament earning an
automatic berth in the NAIA national
tournament in Columbia, Missouri, on
November 28-December 1.
