Two Lady Cougars Named NCCAA All-Americans

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (3-25-2008) - Amanda Himes and Rachel Fiely, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s basketball team, were honored when the National Christian College Athletic Association All-American Teams were announced recently.

Himes a 6-foot-1 freshman post from Hilliard, Ohio, was named to the NCCAA All-American Second Team after completing an outstanding first college season. The former Hilliard Darby High School standout finished the year averaging a team-best 16.8 points and 8.3 rebounds with 28 blocked shots. She shot 49.9 percent from the field (201-for-403) and 62.3 percent from the free throw line (101-for-162).

Fiely, a 5-foot-7 junior guard from Greenville, Ohio, was named to the NCCAA All-American Honorable Mention Team. The former Greenville High School star averaged 13.2 points and 3.3 rebounds and dished out a team-leading 151 assists to go with 60 steals. She shot 38.7 percent from the field (116-for-300), 38.6 percent from three-point range (59-for-153), and a team-high 77.2 percent from the free throw line (105-for-136).

MVNU finished the year with an 18-12 overall record and a 5-9 AMC South Division mark. It was the most wins since the 2000-2001 team posted a 20-12 mark.
