Two Lady Cougars Claim Weekly Softball Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (3-24-2008) - Staci Graham and Kristin Eyerman, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s fastpitch softball team, were recently honored as the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively for their efforts during the week of March 10-16.

Graham, a sophomore designated player from Marengo, Ohio, batted .667 in two games with two hits against both Emerson (Mass.) College and Ramapo (N.J.) College as the Lady Cougars split its first two games of the year.

Graham is currently batting .357 through the first 10 games. The former Highland High School standout has recorded one double, one triple, four RBI, and three runs scored. She is also tied for second on the team with three sacrifice bunts.

Eyerman, a senior right-handed pitcher from Delaware, Ohio, tossed a two-hitter and allowed just one unearned run as she scattered six walks with three strikeouts to pick up the 4-1 victory.

On the season, Eyerman has a 4-0 record with a 1.17 ERA. In 30 innings of work, the former Buckeye Valley High School star has struck out 22 batters and issued 17 walks. Opponents are hitting just .204 against her.

MVNU is currently 7-3 after their spring trip to Kissimmee, Florida. The Lady Cougars are scheduled to travel to Wilmington College on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader.
