The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s cross country team has
signed another important recruit for the
2008 season with the addition of Katelyn
Felger, who has decided to further her
education and continue her running career at
MVNU.
Felger,
a native of Greenford, Ohio, qualified for
the regional meet all four years at South
Range High School as a member of the cross
country team. Her personal best time of
21:44 at the five-kilometer distance came in
her senior year. She was also a member of
the track team at South Range.
"Katelyn is a solid addition to this
young group of girls,” said MVNU head coach
Chip Wilson. "She is a quality runner who
has had experience and success running
against some top competition. She just
finished an outstanding track season where
she excelled in the one-mile race. This is
exciting for me as a coach because she has
shown that she can run well in a variety of
different races. I think that she is just
beginning to scratch the surface of what she
can do as a runner and I am anxious to see
what she can do this fall.”
"Katelyn was also very active in her high
school outside of sports,” Wilson added.
"She was involved in numerous groups and
volunteered her time as a leader in the
school. This leadership quality is something
that we need on our campus and on our young
team. I think she has a lot to offer MVNU,
and I know she will be a great fit on our
campus.”
In addition to being involved in cross
country and track at South Range, Felger was
a two-year member of National Honor Society.
She was also involved in Fellowship of
Christian Athletes and Future Teachers of
America for four years, Key Club for three
years, yearbook staff for two years, and the
school play for two years.
"I chose MVNU for several reasons,” said
Felger of her college choice. "I was looking
to find a college with a strong Christian
atmosphere and a small student-to-professor
ratio. I was extremely impressed with the
friendliness and hospitality that was
extended to me during my visit. I believe
(MVNU) has an outstanding nursing program
and I am looking forward to joining the
cross country team.”
The MVNU cross country program was reborn
in the fall of 2006 after not having a
program since the 1979 season. The Lady
Cougars have been competitive in their first
two seasons back on the college cross
country map as evidenced by the team’s
results as MVNU finished 10th at the
AMC/NAIA Region IX meet in 2007 and 21st out
of 24 teams at the National Christian
College Athletic Association meet.
