The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s volleyball team has added
an important recruit for the 2008 season
with the addition of Cieleste Rose, who has
decided to further her education at MVNU and
continue her volleyball career with the Lady
Cougars.
Rose,
a 5-foot-6 outside hitter/defensive
specialist from Lexington, Ohio, registered
225 kills, 181 digs, and 54 aces in 22
matches as a senior at Lexington High
School. She also served at a 91.5 percent
clip as she set a school record with 330
serve attempts. After earning Ohio Cardinal
Conference Honorable Mention status as a
sophomore, Rose was a two-time OCC Second
Team selection and a two-time Northwest
District Third Team pick as a junior and a
senior.
"We are very happy to have Cieleste join
our team,” said MVNU coach Paul Swanson, who
is the NAIA’s all-time wins leader (849) and
has a 834-287 record in 24 years with the
Lady Cougars. "She is a high quality person
and player, and we think she will have a
positive impact on the university and
especially our volleyball program.”
"Cieleste is a fine all-around player who
we will probably use more in the back row,”
Swanson added. "She comes from a strong high
school program (Lexington coached by former
MVNU player Danielle Cleckner Basham), so
she will be ready to compete right away.”
In addition to playing volleyball at
Lexington, Rose has played six years of club
volleyball for MOJO that included one
first-place finish at the regional
tournament last year. She has also been
active in French Honor Society.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Rose of her college choice.
"There is something special about the team
and coach that I just could not pass up
opportunity. The close-knit campus and the
addition of my academic track (forensic
chemistry) made me believe this college was
a great fit.”

MVNU posted a 39-5 overall record in
2007, won both the American Mideast
Conference South Division and NAIA Region IX
Tournament titles, and advanced to the NAIA
National Tournament for the first time in
school history. The Lady Cougars have won 30
or more matches in 15 straight seasons.
