The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University men’s soccer team has landed its
first recruit for the 2008 season as the
Cougars have signed Kyle Maxam, who will
look to further his education and continue
his soccer career at MVNU.
Maxam,
a midfielder from Cincinnati, Ohio, scored
six goals and registered three assists as a
senior at Lakota West High School. He was a
two-time Greater Miami Conference selection
and was an All-City Honorable Mention pick
as a senior. He played on the ODP State Team
in 2004 and 2006 and advanced to the
regional pool in 2004.
"Kyle is a great start to our 2008
recruiting class,” said MVNU head coach Paul
Furey. "He brings all the elements as to the
type of student-athlete you like to have. He
is a solid student, person, and soccer
player. He is a versatile player who can
play inside or outside midfield or he can
play up front.”
"Kyle comes from a quality high school
program and plays with one of the top club
teams in Ohio with Cincinnati United
Premier,” Furey added. "He is well-respected
by his coaches and teammates and is a very
unselfish, team player. I know that he could
have gone and played at a number of schools,
but I am thrilled that he selected MVNU.
Above all, Kyle is a solid and committed
Christian and brings a great spirit and
attitude to our team.”
In addition to playing soccer, Maxam has
been active in his church’s youth group,
Fellowship of Chritian Athletes, and DECA.
"I have always wanted to be a Cougar
since I was young,” said Maxam, whose older
brother, Jeff, attended MVNU and played on
the soccer team. I like the team unity and
the team’s style of play. It matches my
style very well.”
MVNU finished the 2007 season with a
14-5-3 overall record and finished third at
the National Christian College Athletic
Association National Tournament in
Kissimmee, Florida.
