The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s volleyball team has added
an important recruit for the 2008 season
with the addition of Megan Yoder, who has
decided to further her education at MVNU and
continue her volleyball career with the Lady
Cougars.
Yoder,
a 5-foot-8 outside hitter from Berlin, Ohio,
registered 283 kills, 118 blocks, 195 digs,
and 19 aces as a senior at Hiland High
School as her team posted a 23-5 record, won
the Inter-Valley Conference title and the
district championship, and finished as the
region runner-up. She was named to the IVC
Second Team and the District 5 Second Team,
and she was selected to the District 5
All-Star Team. A three-year varsity
letterwinner, she was selected as Hiland’s
Miss Volleyball in 2007.
“We are really pleased that Megan has
chosen MVNU as her college home for the next
four years,” said MVNU coach Paul Swanson,
who is the NAIA’s all-time wins leader (849)
and has a 834-287 record in 24 years with
the Lady Cougars. “She is a very
high-quality person in every way -
first-class character, academics,
personality, and athletic ability. We are
looking forward to the many ways she will
positively contribute to the campus and
college experience here at MVNU.”
“Megan is a relatively young volleyball
player in terms of experience, but we are
really excited about her potential,” Swanson
added. “She has made tremendous improvement
in her last two years in high school. We
know that Megan is a very special person and
we think she can become a special player as
well.”
In
addition to playing volleyball at Hiland,
she was also a member of the Lady Hawk’s
state championship basketball teams in 2005
and 2006. She is a two-year member of
National Honor Society and has received the
Scholar-Athlete Award all throughout high
school. In addition, she was a Homecoming
attendant in 2005.
“There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Yoder of her college choice. “I
like the small, Christian campus atmosphere.
I was also really impressed with Coach
Swanson’s volleyball program and felt that
it was the perfect fit for me.”
MVNU posted a 39-5 overall record in
2007, won both the American Mideast
Conference South Division and NAIA Region IX
Tournament titles, and advanced to the NAIA
National Tournament for the first time in
school history. The Lady Cougars have won 30
or more matches in 15 straight seasons.
