Amanda Himes, a member of
the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s
basketball team, has been selected as the
American Mideast Conference Player of the
Week for her performance during the week of
February 18-24. This is the third time this
season that Himes has earned this honor.
Himes,
a 6-foot-1 post from Hilliard, Ohio,
averaged 18.5 points and 15.0 rebounds for
the week as the Lady Cougars went 1-1. She
began the week with 17 points and 14
rebounds in a 60-51 loss to NAIA Division II
No. 21 University of Rio Grande. Then, she
scored 20 points and grabbed a career-high
16 rebounds in a 66-63 upset win at No. 19
Ohio Dominican University.
On the season, Himes leads MVNU in
scoring (16.8 points per game), rebounding
(8.1 rebounds per game), and blocked shots
(26). She is shooting 50.8 percent from the
field (187-for-368) and 61.1 percent from
the free throw line (96-for-157). She is
just 37 points shy of tying the school
record for points in a season.
The Lady Cougars finished the regular
season with a 17-11 overall mark. MVNU will
return to action on Thursday when the team
will travel to Geneva (Pa.) College for an
National Christian College Athletic
Association East Region semifinal game that
will get under way at 7:00 p.m.
