For the second time this
season, Amanda Himes, a member of the Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women’s
basketball team has been selected as the
American Mideast Conference Player of the
Week as she was honored this time for her
performance in games played from January
28-February 3.
Himes,
a 6-foot-1 freshman post from Hilliard,
Ohio, averaged 24.5 points and 9.5 rebounds
as the Lady Cougars posted a 1-1 record for
the week. The former Hilliard Darby High
School standout shot 60.0 percent from the
field (21-for-35) and 70.0 percent from the
free throw line (7-for-10).
In MVNU’s 62-61 loss to NAIA Division II
No. 16 Ohio Dominican University, Himes led
the Lady Cougars with 22 points and nine
rebounds. She closed out the week with a
career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds in an
85-74 win at Wilberforce University as she
went 12-for-17 from the field (70.6
percent).
On the season, Himes leads MVNU in
scoring (17.1 points per game) and
rebounding (7.4 rebounds per game) while
shooting 53.8 percent from the field
(156-for-290) and 66.1 percent from the free
throw line (82-for-124). She has also posted
a team-best 19 blocked shots.
The Lady Cougars are currently 15-8
overall and 3-6 in the AMC South Division.
MVNU will return to action on Saturday when
the team will travel to NAIA Division II No.
