The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University womens soccer team has signed a
key recruit for the 2008 season as Sarah
Buehler has decided to further her education
and continue her soccer career at MVNU.
Buehler,
a forward from Tallmadge, Ohio, recorded 13
goals and four assists in 14 matches as a
senior at Tallmadge High School. She
finished with 44 goals and 15 assists for
her career and she became the first player
in program history to be named to the
Suburban League First Team all four years.
She was a two-time All-District Second Team
selection and a four-time Tallmadge High
School Offensive Most Valuable Player.
Buehler, who served as a captain during her
senior year, also was a Suburban League
Scholar-Athlete Award recipient as well as
being selected as the Cleveland Plain Dealer
Player of the Week once.
"From day one, we knew we really wanted
Sarah to be a Lady Cougar, said MVNU head
coach Jonathan Meade. "She has set high
standards for herself and has not
disappointed in her accomplishments. She is
a high character person who has been very
successful in the classroom and on the
soccer field.
"As a player, Sarah has proven that she
can score goals, and I expect that she will
continue doing so at the college level,
added Meade. "In addition, she will bring a
physical presence to our attack and continue
to add more overall speed to the team. I
think Sarah will do very well at the next
level.

In
addition to playing soccer, Buehler was a
member of the varsity track team as a
freshman and earned Suburban League
Honorable Mention in the 4x400 relay. She
has been involved in Leaders in Action,
Student Senate, Pep Club, Letter Winners
Club, yearbook staff, and served as a
D.A.R.E. role model as well as a Relay for
Life team member. She was also selected as
the Winter Formal Queen.
"There are several reasons why I chose to
attend MVNU, said Buehler. "I wanted to
pursue a nursing career at an excellent
academic university, grow in my faith, and
continue my passion for soccer. I am excited
to have a chance to be a part of a team that
is dedicated to personal excellence.
MVNU posted a 15-7-1 overall record in
2007 and was ranked No. 25 in the final NAIA
national poll. The Lady Cougars also claimed
a share of their fourth American Mideast
Conference South Division title in the past
five years, and MVNU has won two National
Christian College Athletic Association
national titles (2003 and 2006).
