Lady Cougars Well-Represented on NAIA Region IX Team

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (12-1-2007) - Shena Beheler and Courtney Springer, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team, were selected to the NAIA Region IX Team when the honors were announced recently.

Beheler, a senior middle hitter from Butler, Ohio, was named to the NAIA Region IX Team for the third straight year and was selected as the NAIA Region IX Player of the Year. The former Fredericktown High School star led the Lady Cougars with 693 kills and 231 blocks. Beheler also added 42 aces and 455 digs.

Springer, a sophomore outside hitter from Van Wert, Ohio, joined Beheler on the NAIA Region IX Team. The former Crestview High School standout registered 412 kills, 450 digs, 100 blocks, and 42 aces this year. Springer was also second on the team with 79 assists and a 94.2 serve reception percentage.

MVNU head coach Paul Swanson was also selected as the NAIA Region IX Coach of the Year after guiding the Lady Cougars to both the American Mideast Conference South Division regular-season title and the NAIA Region IX Tournament title. MVNU advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history, was ranked 13th in the final NAIA poll, and finished the season with a 39-5 overall record.
