Three Lady Cougars Earn NCCAA All-American Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (12-5-2007) - Three members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team were honored recently when the National Christian College Athletic Association All-American Teams were announced.

Shena Beheler, a senior middle hitter from Butler, Ohio, highlighted the list for the Lady Cougars as she was named to the NCCAA All-American First Team for the second straight season. The former Fredericktown High School star led MVNU with 693 kills and 231 blocks. She also recorded 42 aces and 455 digs.

For her career, Beheler ranks first in school history in kills (2,777), second in blocks (968) and serve attempts (2,855), fourth in aces (203), and ninth in both serve reception attempts (2,304) and digs (1,556). She also set school records for highest kills per game average in a career (4.12) and in a season (4.68 in 2007).

Courtney Springer, a sophomore right-side hitter from Van Wert, Ohio, was named to the NCCAA All-American Second Team for the first time in her career. The former Crestview High School standout compiled 412 kills, 450 digs, 100 blocks, 42 aces, and 79 assists this season. In just two seasons, Springer has now recorded 756 kills, 241 blocks, 153 assists, 71 aces, and 745 digs.

Kaylin Austen, a sophomore setter from Shelby, Ohio, was also named to the NCCAA All-American Team for the first time. The former Shelby High School product handed out 1,799 assists for the highest single-season assists per game average in school history (12.07) in her first season as the starting setter. She also posted 67 kills, 38 aces, 59 blocks, and 311 digs. She now has 2,283 assists and 440 digs in her career.

MVNU finished the season with a 39-5 overall record. The Lady Cougars were ranked 13th in the final NAIA poll, won their seventh conference title and first NAIA Region IX Tournament title, and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history.
