Six Cougars Earn AMC South Division Soccer Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (12-5-2007) - Four members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team were honored on Monday when the National Christian College Athletic Association All-American Teams were announced.

Zach Patterson, a junior defender from Dayton, Ohio, was named to the NCCAA All-American First Team after anchoring the Cougars’ defense that allowed a school-record low 17 goals in 22 matches in 2007. The former Dayton Christian High School standout also registered one goal and one assist.

Scott Spangler, a sophomore midfielder from Pataskala, Ohio, was named to the NCCAA All-American Second Team. The former Watkins Memorial High School star recorded three goals and five assists while directing the MVNU offensive attack.

Adam Worrall, a junior forward from Blacklick, Ohio, was selected as an NCCAA Honorable Mention All-American. The former Gahanna Lincoln High School star led the Cougars with 10 goals despite playing in just 12 matches due to injuries. Worrall also added two assists.

Chris Mast, a sophomore midfielder from Smithville, Ohio, was also named an NCCAA Honorable Mention All-American. The former Central Christian High School standout compiled three goals and two assists this year.

MVNU finished the season with a 14-5-3 overall record. The Cougars also won the NCCAA East Region Tournament and finished third at the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida.
