Rachel Fiely, a member of
the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s
basketball team, has been selected as the
National Christian College Athletic
Association Player of the Week for her
performances in games played during the week
of November 26-December 1.
Fiely,
a 5-foot-9 junior guard from Greenville,
Ohio, averaged 18.3 points, 6.3 assists, 2.7
rebounds, and 1.3 steals during the Lady
Cougars’ 3-0 week while shooting 61.5
percent from the field (16-for-26), a
blistering 76.5 percent from three-point
range (13-for-17), and 100 percent from the
free throw line (10-of-10). She scored 17
points with four rebounds and four assists
in an 81-57 win over the University of
Northwestern Ohio. She added a career-high
25 points with eight assists in an 89-61
victory over Concordia (Mich.) University.
She closed out the week with 13 points and
seven assists in a 78-55 win over Pikeville
(Ky.) College.
On the season, Fiely is averaging 13.2
points, 6.0 assists, and 2.2 rebounds per
game. The former Greenville High School star
is shooting 47.4 percent from the field
(37-for-78), 58.0 percent from three-point
range (29-for-50), and 76.3 percent from the
free throw line (29-for-38). She has also
recorded 22 steals. Fiely has moved into
fifth place in school history in career
assists (314).
MVNU is currently 9-1 and has won seven
straight games. The Lady Cougars will host
Carlow (Pa.) University on Saturday at 2:00
p.m. in a non-conference game.
