Kristy Brandolini, a member
of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University
women’s soccer team, is featured in the
December 17th issue of Sports Illustrated in
the "Faces in the Crowd” section.
Brandolini,
a senior forward from Twinsburg, Ohio,
registered 14 goals and a team-high 16
assists in her final season. She finishes
her career ranked first in school history in
goals (70), first in points (189), and
second in assists (49).
Among the many honors that Brandolini
received this season, the former Twinsburg
High School star was selected as the
Michelle Akers National Player of the Year
by the National Christian College Athletic
Association. She was also selected as an
NAIA Honorable Mention All-American for the
third time and named to the NCCAA East
Region Team for the fourth time as she
highlighted the list as the NCCAA East
Region Player of the Year.
Brandolini becomes the ninth MVNU player
or coach to be featured in Sports
Illustrated’s "Faces in the Crowd” and the
first since women’s basketball player Katie
Keller was in the December 8th, 2003 issue.
Shelly Aldrich is the only other MVNU
women’s soccer player to be featured when
she was in the October 9th, 2000 issue.
The Lady Cougars finished the year with a
15-7-1 overall record that included a share
of the American Mideast Conference South
Division title, the National Christian
College Athletic Association East Region
title, and a fourth-place finish at the
NCCAA National Tournament. MVNU was also
ranked 25th in the final NAIA national poll.
