Steve Williams, a member of
the Mount Vernon Nazarene University
baseball team, was recently selected as the
American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region
IX Player of the Week for his performance in
games played during the week of April 14-20.
Williams,
a freshman outfielder from Cincinnati, Ohio,
batted .563 (9-for-16) during the Cougars’
7-0 week. He went 3-for-4 in a 6-3 win at
Kenyon College with two RBI, and he also
went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a
pair of doubles in a 12-2 victory at home
against Walsh University. He closed out the
week by going 2-fo-3 with a career-high four
RBI in a 9-7 win at Walsh University. For
the week, he had two doubles, two triples,
four runs scored, and eight RBI in five
games.
On the season, the former Milford High
School star has played and started in 37 of
the team’s 41 games and is batting .315.
Williams has compiled nine doubles, two
triples, 14 runs scored, and 26 RBI. He has
also committed just one error in 61 chances
in the outfield.
MVNU is currently 26-15 overall and 14-8
in the AMC. The Cougars will return to
action on Tuesday when the team will travel
to Wilmington College for a non-conference
nine-inning game that will get under way at
4:00 p.m.
