Candace White, a member of
the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s
fastpitch softball team, has been selected
as the American Mideast Conference and NAIA
Region IX Pitcher of the Week for her
performance in games played during the week
of April 7-13.
White,
a junior right-handed pitcher from Gahanna,
Ohio, posted a 3-1 record for the week with
a 0.58 ERA. In 24.1 innings of work, the
former Gahanna Lincoln High School standout
struck out 16 batters and did not issue a
walk. She tossed a pair of shutouts during
the week in wins over Shawnee State
University and Cedarville University, and
she also picked up a win in relief versus
Cedarville. Her only loss of the week came
in a 1-0 loss at Cedarville in a game that
went eight innings.
On the season, White has posted an 8-6
record with a team-best 1.84 ERA. In 87.2
innings of work, she has struck out a
team-leading 75 batters and issued just 20
walks. Opponents are hitting .253 against
her and she has completed all 12 games that
she has started with three shutouts.
MVNU is currently 16-10 overall and 7-7
in the AMC South Division. The Lady Cougars
will return to action on Thursday when MVNU
will host the University of Rio Grande in
another AMC South Division doubleheader that
will begin at 3:00 p.m.
