Four members of the Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women’s fastpitch
softball team were honored recently when the
National Christian College Athletic
Association All-American Teams were
announced in conjunction with the NCCAA
National Tournament. In addition, one player
was named to the NCCAA Scholar-Athlete Team
and two players earned a spot on the NCCAA
All-National Tournament Team.
Staci
Graham (left), a sophomore
designated player from Marengo, Ohio, was
named to the NCCAA All-American First Team.
The former Highland High School standout is
batting .324 with six doubles, one triple,
one home run, 11 runs scored, and 25 RBI
while starting all 37 games for the Lady
Cougars.
Kristin Eyerman, a senior pitcher from
Delaware, Ohio, was selected as an NCCAA
Honorable Mention All-American. The former
Buckeye Valley High School star has posted a
10-5 record on the mound with a 2.83 ERA. In
118.2 innings of work, she has struck out 84
batters and opponents are hitting just .260
against her.
Leslie Banichar, a sophomore outfielder
from Shelby, Ohio, was also an NCCAA
Honorable Mention All-American. The former
Shelby High School product is batting .337
with six doubles, four triples, 23 runs
scored, and 26 RBI. She leads the team with
16 walks and is tied for the team lead with
13 stolen bases, and she has played in all
37 games with 36 starts.
Kristin Kurelic, a freshman second
baseman from Delaware, Ohio, rounded out the
NCCAA Honorable Mention All-American picks
for MVNU. The former Worthington Christian
High School standout leads the team with a
.396 batting average. She has recorded three
doubles, 19 runs scored, six RBI, 13 stolen
bases, and 10 sacrifice bunts while starting
all 37 games.
Kylie Rupert, a junior first baseman from
Wapakoneta, Ohio, was named to the NCCAA
Scholar-Athlete Team. The former Wapakoneta
High School product is batting .182 with
three doubles, three RBI, and four runs
scored in 26 games with 25 starts. She has
posted a 3.94 grade point average as a
Biology major.
Kurelic and sophomore shortstop Tasha
Konkle were named to the NCCAA All-National
Tournament Team for their efforts in leading
the Lady Cougars to a fourth-place finish in
the seven-team event. Kurelic batted .571
over the three games to lead MVNU, while
Konkle, a native of Urbana, Ohio, and a
former West Liberty-Salem star, batted .250
and registered 12 assists at shortstop with
no errors.
The Lady Cougars are currently 20-17
overall. They will return to action on
Tuesday when MVNU will travel to Walsh
University for a non-conference doubleheader
that will start at 3:00 p.m.
