The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s soccer team has signed a
key recruit for the 2008 season as Emily
Meyer has decided to further her education
and continue her soccer career at MVNU.
Meyer,
a defensive midfielder from Amanda, Ohio,
started 15 matches for Amanda-Clearcreek
High School as a senior. The four-year
varsity performer and three-year captain was
twice named to the Mid-State League First
Team and was selected to the All-District
Second Team as a senior.
"Emily is just a great person and I am so
happy that she has committed to play for the
Lady Cougars next year,” said MVNU head
coach Jonathan Meade. "I really like how she
strives for excellence in everything she
does. That is a quality I look forward to
her adding to our team. She is a versatile
player and I see her helping us at a variety
of midfield and defensive positions. She is
a thinker and understands the game well. I
know she will be successful at the next
level.”
"I appreciate Emily’s commitment to her
faith as she is very active in her church,”
added Meade. "She is also an excellent
student. I look forward to having her on the
team next year.”
In addition to playing soccer at Amanda-Clearcreek,
Meyer was inducted into National Honor
Society and served as its president. She was
a three-year member of the Foreign Language
Club and a four-year member of the Varsity
Club, and she was selected as the Winter
Homecoming Court queen in 2008.
"There are several reasons why I chose to
attend MVNU,” said Meyer. "I like the campus
because it is small and easy to get around.
Everyone seems really nice, and everyone
seems to know everybody. Plus, it is close
to home.”
MVNU posted a 15-7-1 overall record in
2007 and was ranked No. 25 in the final NAIA
national poll. The Lady Cougars also claimed
a share of their fourth American Mideast
Conference South Division title in the past
five years, and MVNU has won two National
Christian College Athletic Association
national titles (2003 and 2006).
