The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s fastpitch softball team
will honor its lone senior softball player
in between games of the Lady Cougars’
American Mideast Conference South Division
doubleheader with Ohio Dominican University
on Tuesday that will get under way at 3:00
p.m. at Cougar Field.
Kristin
Eyerman, a pitcher from Delaware, Ohio, has
led the Lady Cougars to a 74-68 record over
the past four years (.521 winning
percentage). MVNU captured the 2008 National
Christian College Athletic Association East
Region title last week and will make its
first appearance in the NCCAA National
Tournament since 2004 later this week. The
Lady Cougars (19-13, 7-9 AMC South) are also
looking to qualify for the AMC Tournament
for the first time since 2004.
Eyerman, a former Buckeye Valley High
School standout, has posted a career record
of 40-32 over the past four years with a
2.19 ERA. She ranks second in school history
with 325 strikeouts, fifth with 489.1
innings pitched, and sixth with 58 complete
games in 68 starts. She also has three
career saves and has thrown five career
shutouts.
Among Eyerman’s many honors, she was
named to the AMC South Division First Team,
the NCCAA East Region Team, the NAIA Region
IX Team, and the NCCAA All-American Second
Team as a junior in 2007. She was also a
two-time NCCAA East Region Honorable Mention
pick in 2005 and 2006 and was named to the
AMC South Division All-Freshmen Team in
2005. This season, she has been selected as
the AMC and NAIA Region IX Pitcher of the
Week once.
“We have been very fortunate to have
Kristin as part of our softball program,”
said MVNU head coach Jeana Howald. “She has
great confidence and ability on the softball
field, and she has been critical to our
success the past four years. She is not only
an outstanding pitcher - she is also an
excellent student and adds tremendously to
our team off the field.”
“It has been my privilege to watch
Kristin grow and mature as a player and more
importantly as a person the past four
years,” Howald added. “We will greatly miss
her hard work, competitiveness, and desire.
I know her well enough to know that she will
succeed in whatever the future holds for
her.”
Following Tuesday’s doubleheader with
Ohio Dominican, the Lady Cougars will travel
to West Palm Beach, Florida, for the NCCAA
National Tournament to be hosted by Palm
Beach Atlantic (Fla.) University. MVNU is
the No. 1 seed in the seven-team double
elimination event and will face the winner
of the game between sixth-seeded Palm Beach
Atlantic and Judson (Ill.) University at
6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
