Josh Estep, a member of the
Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball
team, was recently selected as the National
Christian College Athletic Association
Player of the Week for his performance in
games played during the week of March
31-April 6.
Estep,
a junior second baseman from Gahanna, Ohio,
batted .529 (9-for-17) as the Cougars posted
a 5-1 record. The former Gahanna Lincoln
High School standout recorded two double,
three home runs (including one
inside-the-park homer), nine RBI, and six
runs scored as he posted a 1.176 slugging
percentage and a .636 on-base percentage. He
also had 28 fielding chances with just one
error as MVNU turned eight double plays
during the week.
On the season, Estep is batting .396
(36-for-91) in 29 games with three doubles,
one triple, five home runs, 23 RBI, and 18
runs scored. He has a .615 slugging
percentage and a .473 on-base percentage. He
has also committed just five errors in the
field in 155 chances for a .968 fielding
percentage. He has moved into eighth place
in school history with 338 career assists.
The Cougars are currently 16-13 overall
and 8-6 in the American Mideast Conference.
MVNU will return to action on Tuesday when
the team will host Ohio State
University-Newark in a non-conference
doubleheader that will get under way at 1:00
p.m. at Cougar Field.
