MVNU's Wilson Named NCCAA National Player
of the Week

MOUNT
VERNON, Ohio - Krysti Wilson, a member of
the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s
soccer team, was recently selected as the
National Christian College Athletic
Association Player of the Week for her
performance during the week of November
13-19.Wilson, a senior goalkeeper from
Sunbury, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to a
1-0-1 record for the week as MVNU advanced
to the championship match of the NCCAA
National Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida.
In the opening round of the tournament, the
former Big Walnut High School standout
allowed just one goal as the third-seeded
Lady Cougars knocked off sixth-seeded Asbury
(Ky.) College 4-1. Then, in the semifinals,
she stopped two penalty kicks in a shootout
as MVNU battled second-seeded Indiana
Wesleyan to a scoreless 0-0 tie in double
overtime before advancing 5-4 in the
shootout.
Wilson went on to stop two more penalty
kicks in a 1-1 double overtime shootout
versus fifth-seeded The Master’s (Calif.)
College in the championship match as the
Lady Cougars claimed their second NCCAA
national title in four years. For her
efforts, she was selected as the Most
Valuable Defensive Player of the tournament.
Wilson finishes the season with a 1.05
goals against average and six shutouts as
she allowed just 24 goals in 22 matches. She
closes her career with a school-record 31
shutouts and a 0.95 goals career goals
against average.
MVNU closed the season with a 13-7-2
overall record. In addition to the NCCAA
national title, the Lady Cougars also won
the American Mideast Conference South
Division crown and the NCCAA East Region
