Two Lady Cougars Named Volleyball All-Americans

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Shena Beheler and Tiffany Milburn, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team, were recently honored when the National Christian College Athletic Association All-American Teams were announced at the NCCAA National Tournament held at Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Beheler, a junior middle hitter from Butler, Ohio, was selected as the NCCAA National Player of the Year and highlighted the NCCAA All-American First Team. The former Fredericktown High School star leads the Lady Cougars with a career-high 712 kills and 214 blocks. She has also registered 47 aces and 422 digs. She is on pace break the school’s single-season kills per game mark of 4.37 as she is currently average 4.62 kills per game. She also already owns the third-highest single-season kill total and the ninth-highest single-season block total.

For her career, Beheler has moved into a tie for second place in school history with 2,004 kills. She is also second in career blocks (709), and tied for tenth with 2,139 career serve attempts. She recently became the 22nd player in school history to reach the 1,000-dig mark and currently has 1,060 career digs. She is the first MVNU player to be named NCCAA National Player of the Year in volleyball.

Milburn, a junior libero from Centerburg, Ohio, was chosen to the NCCAA All-American Second Team. The former Centerburg High School standout has set a new school single-season mark with 1,289 serve reception attempts. She has also already registered the second-highest single-season digs mark with 767, and she has recorded 11 kills, 24 assists, and a team-high 58 aces.

For her career, Milburn ranks fourth in school history with 2,600 serve reception attempts, while she also ranks sixth in digs (1,672).

In addition to the two All-American selections, MVNU seniors Katie Ickes and Jessi Weaver were named to the NCCAA Scholar-Athlete Team. Ickes, an outside hitter from Wooster, Ohio, has a 3.825 grade point average as an Early Childhood Education major, while Weaver, an outside hitter from Apple Creek, Ohio, is a Biology major with a 3.839 grade point average.

The Lady Cougars, who are 28-16 overall, will return to action on Friday when the team will take part in the 12-team American Mideast Conference Tournament at Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College. MVNU is the fourth seed from the AMC South Division and will take on Notre Dame College, the third seed from the AMC North Division, at noon on Friday. The winner will advance to face Tiffin University, the AMC South Division second seed, at 5:00 p.m. MVNU must win at least two matches to advance to the NAIA Region IX Tournament at Walsh University next weekend.
