Five Cougars Earn AMC South Division Soccer Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Five members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s soccer team were recently honored when the American Mideast Conference South Division awards were announced.

Josh Van Pelt, a senior forward from Maryville, Tennessee, highlighted the list of Cougars as he was selected to the AMC South Division First Team for the second straight year. The former William Blount High School star led MVNU with six goals to go with three assists. Van Pelt finishes his career ranked fourth in school history in goals (38), sixth in assists (27), and fifth in points (103).

Adam Worrall, a sophomore midfielder from Blacklick, Ohio, was named to the AMC South Division Second Team. The former Gahanna Lincoln High School standout registered four goals and three assists this season.

Daniel Seiffert, a senior midfielder from Lewis Center, Ohio, was an AMC South Division Honorable Mention pick. The former Worthington Christian High School product started all 18 matches and finished with two goals and two assists.

Scott Spangler, a freshman midfielder from Pataskala, Ohio, was also an AMC South Division Honorable Mention selection. The former Watkins Memorial High School standout led the team with four assists and also scored one goal.

Alex Stout, a freshman goalkeeper from Pataskala, Ohio, rounded out the AMC South Division Honorable Mention picks. Another former Watkins Memorial High School star, Stout posted a 1.63 goals against average with two shutouts and 75 saves in 17 matches.

In addition to the individual honors, MVNU was also selected by the conference coaches to receive the AMC South Division Fair Play Award for the third time in the past five years. The Cougars finished the year with a 7-10-1 overall record and a 4-4-0 AMC South Division mark.
