Three Lady Cougars Named to NAIA Region IX Softball Team

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Three members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s fastpitch softball team were honored recently when the NAIA Region IX Team was announced.

Laura Kot, a senior second baseman from Tallmadge, Ohio, was the third player selected to the 18-player All-Region Team. The former Tallmadge High School star led MVNU and the American Mideast Conference with a .462 batting average to go with three doubles, one triple, 12 RBI, 27 runs scored, and 17 stolen bases. She also posted a .950 fielding percentage at second base.

Kristin Eyerman, a junior right-handed pitcher from Delaware, Ohio, joined Kot on the NAIA Region IX Team as the fourth pitcher selected. The former Buckeye Valley High School product posted a 13-6 record on the mound with a 1.80 ERA. In 128.1 innings of work, she struck out 85 batters with just 25 walks. She also had two shutouts and registered three saves.

Caitlin Murphy, a freshman catcher from Gahanna, Ohio, rounded out the selections for the Lady Cougars as the second catcher selected. The former Gahanna Lincoln High School standout batted .322 with nine doubles, three triples, two home runs, 15 RBI, and 27 runs scored. She also threw out 17 of the 38 runners who tried to steal on her and picked off six others.

MVNU finished the season with a 22-14 overall record and a 5-9 mark in the AMC South Division.
