written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT
VERNON, Ohio - Laura Kot, a member of the
Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s
fastpitch softball team, was recently
honored for her achievements on the softball
diamond and in the classroom when the 2007
ESPN The Magazine© Academic All-District IV
College Division Softball Teams were
selected by the members of the College
Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Kot, a senior second baseman from Tallmadge,
Ohio, was named to the Academic All-District
First Team for the second straight year as
one of four infielders selected. This
season, the former Tallmadge High School
standout batted .462 with 60 hits, three
doubles, one triple, 12 RBI, 27 runs scored,
and a team-high 17 stolen bases in 17
attempts. She also posted a .950 fielding
percentage with just eight errors in 161
chances. A Mathematics major, Kot posted a
perfect 4.00 grade point average in the
classroom and was the co-valedictorian of
her graduating class this past Saturday.
The Academic All-District IV College
Division Teams consist of players from NCAA
Division II and III and NAIA schools in
Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and
Tennessee. Eligible student-athletes are
nominated by their school’s sports
information director and must have at least
a 3.20 grade point average and be at least
in their sophomore year. Members of the
Academic All-District IV First Team are then
eligible for Academic All-America
consideration, which will be announced on
May 30. Kot was named to the Academic
All-America Second Team last year.
