Six Lady Cougars Earn AMC South Division
Softball Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Six members of the
Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s fastpitch softball team
were honored when the American Mideast
Conference South Division honors were
announced on Friday.

Highlighting the awards for the Lady
Cougars was senior second baseman Laura Kot
from Tallmadge, Ohio, who was named the AMC
South Division Player of the Year. The
former Tallmadge High School star led MVNU
and the AMC with a .462 batting average to
go with three doubles, one triple, 12 RBI,
27 runs scored, and 17 stolen bases. She
also posted a .950 fielding percentage at
second base.
Caitlin Murphy, a freshman catcher from
Gahanna, Ohio, joined Kot on the AMC South
Division First Team and was also selected to
the five-player AMC South Division
All-Freshmen Team. The former Gahanna
Lincoln High School standout batted .322
with nine doubles, three triples, two home
runs, 15 RBI, and 27 runs scored. She also
threw out 17 of the 38 runners who tried to
steal on her and picked off six others.
Kristin Eyerman, a junior right-handed
pitcher from Delaware, Ohio, rounded out the
AMC South Division First Team selections for
the Lady Cougars. The former Buckeye Valley
High School product posted a 13-6 record on
the mound with a 1.80 ERA. In 128.1 innings
of work, she struck out 85 batters with just
25 walks. She also had two shutouts and
registered three saves.

Karly Clay, a sophomore third baseman
from Blacklick, Ohio, was an AMC South
Division Honorable Mention selection after
batting .376 with a team-leading 28 RBI. The
former Gahanna Lincoln High School standout
also led MVNU with 14 doubles and four
triples, and she added one home run and 19
runs scored.
Tasha Konkle, a freshman shortstop from
Urbana, Ohio, joined Clay on the AMC South
Division Honorable Mention list after
batting .327 and starting all 36 games at
shortstop where she committed just 10 errors
in 164 chances. The former West
Liberty-Salem High School star recorded six
doubles, one home run, five stolen bases, 15
RBI, and 24 runs scored.
Leslie Banichar, a freshman outfielder
from Shelby, Ohio, rounded out the AMC South
Division Honorable Mention picks for the
Lady Cougars. The former Shelby High School
product batted .296 with two doubles, two
triples, 11 runs scored, and 16 RBI. She
also stole 14 bases and did not commit an
error while starting all 36 games in
centerfield.
MVNU finished the season with a 22-14
overall record and a 5-9 mark in the AMC
South Division.
