Cougars Set to Compete for NCCAA National

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon
Nazarene University baseball team headed out
to Struthers, Ohio, for the 2007 National
Christian College Athletic Association
national tournament on Tuesday afternoon.
The tournament festivities get under way on
Tuesday night with a banquet for all 10
teams at Geneva (Pa.) College with former
Major League player Sid Bream being the
featured speaker.Then, on Wednesday, the
action will get started at 10:00 a.m. in the
double elimination tournament held at Bob
Cene Park. Eighth-seeded Trinity
International (Ill.) University (30-20) and
ninth-seeded Greenville (Ill.) College
(23-20) will square off in the first game,
while fourth-seeded Geneva (29-20) and
fifth-seeded Bluefield (Va.) College (25-21)
will also meet. At 12:30 p.m., third-seeded
Southern Wesleyan (S.C.) University (35-22)
and sixth-seeded Northwestern (Minn.)
College (31-13) will square off, and
seventh-seeded Trinity Christian (Ill.)
College (24-23) and tenth-seeded Judson
(Ill.) College (22-21) will meet.
Two loser’s bracket games will take place
at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Then, the
top-seeded Cougars (37-14) will take on the
winner of the game between Trinity
International and Greenville at 8:00 p.m.
Second-seeded Faulkner (Ala.) University
(35-24) will also take on the Trinity
Christian/Judson winner at 8:00 p.m.
The tournament will continue until
Saturday when the 2007 NCCAA national
champion will be crowned. MVNU has won five
previous NCCAA national titles - the most
recent coming in 1999.
