MVNU Trio Earns AMC South Division Hoops Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Three members of the
Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s
basketball team were honored when the
American Mideast Conference South Division
awards were announced recently.

Katie Keller, a 5-foot-6 senior guard
from Prospect, Ohio, headlined the list for
the Lady Cougars as she was named to the
five-player AMC South Division Second Team
for the second straight year. The former
Elgin High School star led MVNU in scoring
(17.2 points per game) and three-pointers
made (77), and she was second on the team in
assists (79) and steals (76). Keller, who
finished her career as the Lady Cougars’
all-time leading scorer with 1,726 points,
shot 40.8 percent from the field
(153-for-375), 37.9 percent from three-point
range (77-for-203), and 70.4 percent at the
free throw line (100-for-142).
Rachel Fiely, a 5-foot-7 sophomore guard
from Greenville, Ohio, was named to the AMC
South Division Honorable Mention list for
the second consecutive season. The former
Greenville High School standout averaged
13.1 points and 5.1 rebounds, while leading
the team in assists (132) and steals (83).
After just two seasons, she already ranks
ninth in school history with 254 career
assists, and she is closing in on the top
ten in steals with 162. Fiely shot 45.7
percent from the field (127-for-278), 46.5
percent from three-point range (47-for-101),
and 74.7 percent at the free throw line
(65-for-87).
Melissa Mastrodonato, a 5-foot-10 post
from Lakewood, Ohio, joined Fiely as an AMC
South Division Honorable Mention pick. The
former Lakewood High School product averaged
13.1 points and a team-high 6.3 rebounds per
game. Mastrodonato also led the Lady Cougars
with 43 blocked shots while shooting a
team-best 54.2 percent from the field
(166-for-306). She also shot 70.6 percent
from the free throw line (36-for-51) while
starting all 28 games.
MVNU finished the year with an 11-17
overall record and a 4-14 mark in the
highly-competitive American Mideast
Conference South Division.
