MOUNT
VERNON, Ohio -
The Mount Vernon Nazarene University womens
basketball team has signed another important
recruit for the 2007-2008 season as Kassy
Workinger has decided to further her
education and continue her basketball career
at MVNU.Workinger, a 5-foot-6 guard from
Orrville, Ohio, averaged 10.3 points, 2.8
rebounds, and 2.1 assists as a senior at
Orrville High School. For her efforts, she
was named to the Ohio Cardinal Conference
Second Team and the All-District Honorable
Mention list as a senior after being an OCC
Honorable Mention pick as a junior.
"Kassy is a tremendous person who also
happens to be a great basketball player,
said MVNU head coach Steve Gregory. "As a
coaching staff, we are thrilled with her
decision to become a Lady Cougar next year.
Kassy is a shooting guard who loves to shoot
the three-pointer. She is also very intense
on defense and has a real passion for the
game of basketball.
"I expect Kassy to come in and compete
right away for playing time, Gregory added.
"She has done very well in the classroom and
will add value to our team in leadership
along with her Christian walk. She will also
be a valuable addition to our campus
community.
In addition to playing basketball at
Orrville High School, Workinger was a member
of the volleyball team. She was on the Honor
Roll all throughout high school and was the
January Student of the Month. She was also
inducted into National Honor Society.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU, said Workinger of her college choice.
"MVNU is a school where academics,
leadership, character, and religion come
first. I love this idea and the idea of how
everyone is ready to help you in any way
they can. I never thought I would end up
going to MVNU, but once I visited the campus
and became interest in this university I
knew that this was the best place for me.
The atmosphere of the people is amazing -
smiles all day long, laughter, and
friendship that grows stronger every day.
The campus, academics, and people are so
strong with their Christian life that it
makes every day a chance for me to become
what I have always wanted to be. I love MVNU
and I am proud to have chosen this school.
The Lady Cougars, who are an NAIA
Division II school, finished the 2006-2007
season with an 11-17 overall record.
