MOUNT
VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s fastpitch softball team
has added an important recruit to the team’s
roster for the 2008 season with the addition
of Kristin Kurelic, who has decided to
further her education and continue her
softball career at MVNU.Kurelic, a second
baseman/outfielder from Powell, Ohio, batted
.514 as a senior at Worthington Christian
High School as she went 37-for-72 at the
plate. She also added two doubles, one
triple, one home run, seven RBI, and 22 runs
scored, and she stole 20 bases in 21 games.
In each of her four seasons, she led WCHS in
batting average, on-base percentage, stolen
bases, hits, and runs scored. For her
efforts, Kurelic was named to the
All-Central District Team all four years and
was named to the Central Catholic League
Team in 2007.
"We are very excited to add Kristin to
our team,” said MVNU head coach Jeana Howald.
"We are losing our lead-off hitter and
second baseman, Laura Kot, to graduation
after an incredible four-year career, and we
feel that Kristin has the ability to compete
right away for both of those spots for us
following an outstanding high school career.
She is also a great fit for both our school
and our softball program as she is a good
student in the classroom and values her
Christian faith.”
In addition to playing softball at
Worthington Christian, Kurelic was a
two-year member of the varsity basketball
team. She was inducted into National Honor
Society and participated in the Internship
Academy. She was also honored with the Ohio
High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches
Scholar-Athlete Award, the Agonis Club
Scholar-Athlete Award, and the ACSI
Distinguished Christian High School Student
Award in Academics. In addition, Kurelic
participated on several summer league
softball teams: Westerville Stars,
Westerville Ice, Worthington Heat (Pierce),
Buckeye Heat (Abraham), and Buckeye Heat
(Blackburn).

"There were several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Kurelic of her college choice.
"The school has a good academic reputation,
a nice campus, and an established softball
program. It is close to home, and it is also
a place where I can grow in my faith.”
MVNU is an NAIA school that competes in
the American Mideast Conference South
Division. The Lady Cougars posted a 22-14
overall record in 2007, and the program has
an all-time mark of 525-350-2 in the 23
years of the program’s history.
