MOUNT
VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s soccer team has added
another key recruit to its roster for the
2007 season with the addition of Challyn
Dobson, who has decided to further her
education and continue her soccer career
with the Lady Cougars.Dobson, a center
midfielder from Mount Vernon, Ohio, scored
10 goals and registered 12 assists in 17
matches as a senior at Mount Vernon High
School. A four-year varsity letterwinner,
she was selected as her team’s Most Valuable
Player twice and was named to the Ohio
Capital Conference First Team as a junior in
addition to being named to the OCC Second
Team as a sophomore and a senior.
"The team and I are really excited about
Challyn’s commitment to our program,” said
MVNU head coach Jonathan Meade. "She is a
very talented individual player who
exemplifies all the characteristics of being
a great team player as well. I believe she
has the ability to make a quick impact at
either the midfield or forward position.”
"It is always great to get a local player
from the Mount Vernon community,” Meade
added. "The community has enjoyed seeing her
play over the past four years and will still
have the opportunity to watch her play here
at MVNU. She is a great fit for the
university and I am sure she will have a
very exciting career.”
In addition to playing soccer at Mount
Vernon High School and on various club and
traveling teams, Dobson was involved in
Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Spanish
Club. She was also a two-time academic
letterman and received the Rick Scott
Memorial Scholarship for her academic and
athletic success.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Dobson of her college choice. "I
like the Christian atmosphere, the strong
soccer program, and the nursing/medical
programs. It is also very close to home and
a few of my friends from high school will
also be attending MVNU.”
MVNU finished the season with a 13-7-2
overall record. The Lady Cougars won the
American Mideast Conference South Division
title, the National Christian College
Athletic Association East Region crown, and
the NCCAA national championship.
