MOUNT
VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s fastpitch softball team
has added an important recruit to the team’s
roster for the 2008 season with the addition
of Stephanie Brown, who has decided to
further her education and continue her
softball career at MVNU.Brown, a first
baseman/third baseman from Mount Sterling,
Ohio, posted a .427 batting average as a
senior at Madison Plains High School as she
finished with five doubles, two triples, two
home runs, 24 runs scored, and 27 RBI in 29
games. She was a three-time All-Madison
County selection and a three-year
letterwinner as her school did not have
spring sports during her sophomore year due
to a failed levy. She was also named to the
All-South Central Ohio League Team twice and
earned All-Central District honors as a
senior. She finished her career as the
program’s all-time leading hitter with a
.423 batting average, and she also set the
school record for most RBI in a game with
five.
"We are glad to add Stephanie to our
team,” said MVNU head coach Jeana Howald.
"She is versatile and athletic and could
play several different positions for us. She
is also a very good hitter, and she will be
a great fit for both our softball program
and our university as a whole.”
In addition to playing softball at
Madison Plains, Brown was a three-year
varsity letterwinner in basketball and
earned numerous honors including being an
All-County selection as a senior. She also
played softball with the Ohio Classics
summer team for the past five years that
included a third-place finish at the 2006
PONY Nationals.

"There were several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Brown of her college choice. "I
chose it for the Christian atmosphere and
for the fact that I feel at home with the
girls on the softball team. I think Coach
Howald is a great coach. She knows a lot
about the game of softball and she cares for
all the girls on the team.”
MVNU is an NAIA school that competes in
the American Mideast Conference South
Division. The Lady Cougars posted a 22-14
overall record in 2007, and the program has
an all-time mark of 525-350-2 in the 23
years of the program’s history.
