MOUNT
VERNON, Ohio - Alex Carroll, a former
standout golfer at Licking Valley High
School, has decided to attend Mount Vernon
Nazarene University to further his education
and continue his golfing career.Carroll,
a native of Newark, Ohio, was a three-time
Mid-States League First Team selection and a
one-time All-District selection. He was also
selected as his team’s Most Valuable Player
as a junior and a senior. Carroll holds the
school record for lowest nine-hole score
with a 33 during his junior year, and he
also holds the school’s lowest season
average by posting an average of 38 as a
senior. He carded a 74 at the district
sectional as a senior.
“I am looking forward to Alex becoming
part of the team this fall,” said MVNU golf
coach Mark Stiverson. “He brings high energy
in areas of enthusiasm and desire. I believe
he has the right skill set to not only
challenge the starters, but to also compete
right with them. It will be exciting to see
him develop into a very fine team player.”
In addition to playing golf at Licking
Valley, Carroll was inducted into National
Honor Society and received the Archie
Griffin Sportsmanship Award and was named
Academic All-Ohio as a senior. He served as
the junior class treasurer and for two years
as the student council secretary. He was a
four-year member of the Spanish club
including serving as the president as a
senior, and he was also a four-year member
of the Leo club and served as the secretary
as a senior. He was also a Renaissance staff
member for two years.
“There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Carroll of his college choice.
“It has great academics, an awesome golf
program, and a well-respected and reputable
Christian atmosphere. MVNU will also provide
me opportunities to grow academically,
spiritually, and athletically.”
The MVNU golf program finished the
2006-2007 campaign with a 65-47-4 overall
record. The Cougars also finished sixth in
the American Mideast Conference/NAIA Region
IX Tournament.
