MOUNT
VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s soccer team has added a
key recruit to its roster for the 2007
season with the addition of Jenessa Loewen,
who has decided to further her education and
continue her soccer career with the Lady
Cougars.
Loewen,
a goalkeeper from Gravenhurst, Ontario, was
selected as the Female Athlete of the Year
four times while competing in soccer,
basketball, and volleyball at Gravenhurst
High School. She was the team’s Most
Valuable Player twice in soccer, twice in
volleyball, and once in basketball.
"The team and I are very excited about
the signing of Jenessa,” said MVNU head
coach Jonathan Meade. "She is an outstanding
student-athlete who has worked very hard to
prepare herself for the college game. She is
a quality goalkeeper who will come in and
will immediately work herself in as a
contender for the starting goalkeeper
position.”
"Jenessa had a great visit, and she hit
it off really quickly with the team,” Meade
added. "I know that she has the personality
and character that will mesh well with the
returning players.”
In addition to playing soccer at
Gravenhurst, Loewen has also played club
soccer with the Toronto Junior Lynx and the
Bracebridge Storm. She graduated as an
Ontario Scholar and was on the honor roll
all four years of high school. She also
served as the president of the Gravenhurst
Athletic Council and was a captain on the
soccer, basketball, and volleyball teams.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Loewen of her college choice.
"From visiting the campus in the fall, I
could see that MVNU had very friendly
people, a safe campus, a warm atmosphere,
and overall the size and type of university
that I was looking for. I found it very easy
to get to know Coach Meade and felt welcomed
by the players as soon as I stepped on the
field.”
"I feel that MVNU can provide me with a
well-rounded experience by giving me the
opportunity to play my favorite sport at the
college level as well as attaing a great
education,” Loewen added.
MVNU finished the season with a 13-7-2
overall record. The Lady Cougars won the
American Mideast Conference South Division
title, the National Christian College
Athletic Association East Region crown, and
the NCCAA national championship. |
