MVNU's Borcherdt Named NCCAA National
Player of the Week

MOUNT
VERNON, Ohio - Dan Borcherdt, a member of
the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s
basketball team, has been selected as the
National Christian College Athletic
Association Player of the Week for his
performance during the week of January 1-7.
Borcherdt, a 6-foot sophomore guard from
Archbold, Ohio, averaged 21.0 points, 4.0
assists, and 3.5 rebounds as the Cougars
went 2-0 during the week in knocking off two
of the top teams in the American Mideast
Conference South Division standings. The
former Archbold High School star shot 55.6
percent from the field (10-for-18), 46.7
percent from three-point range (7-for-15),
and 88.2 percent at the free throw line
(15-for-17).
Borcherdt began the week with a
career-high 22 points, six rebounds, and
three assists as MVNU handed then NAIA
Division II No. 14 Cedarville University its
first conference loss 84-77. He added 20
points and five assists as the Cougars
downed Shawnee State University 92-77 to
knock the Bears out of a four-way tie for
first place atop the AMC South Division
standings.
On the season, Borcherdt is averaging
13.0 points per game to go with a team-high
59 assists. He ranks fourth among NAIA
Division II players in free throw percentage
(.915 - 43-for-47) and 18th in
three-pointers made per game (2.8).
Borcherdt is shooting 45.5 percent from the
field (65-for-143) and 44.9 percent from
three-point range (48-for-107).
MVNU is currently 14-3 overall and 6-1 in
the AMC South Division. The Cougars, who are
ranked 12th in the latest NAIA Division II
poll, will put their seven-game winning
streak on the line when the team hosts
Tiffin University in another conference game
on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. |  |
