Cougars

MOUNT
VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s basketball team has
signed another important recruit for the
2007-2008 season as Kelli Pollock has
decided to further her education and
continue her basketball career at MVNU.
Pollock, a 5-foot-9 guard from Mogadore,
Ohio, is averaging 19.4 points, 10.9
rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 3.7 steals for
Mogadore High School, which is still alive
in the Ohio High School Athletic Association
playoffs in the district semifinals with a
17-5 record. A three-time All-Conference and
All-District First Team selection, Pollock
was named to the All-Ohio Third Team as a
junior. She holds school records for most
points in a season (482), most
three-pointers made in a season (72), most
free throws in a game (18) and a season
(126). She became the school’s all-time
leading scorer this season and now has over
1,600 career points. She also is the
school’s career leader in free throws made
and three-pointers made.
"This has been a good year for us on the
recruiting front and it just got even better
with the addition of Kelli,” said MVNU head
coach Steve Gregory. "We are delighted with
her decision to become a Lady Cougar next
year. She has had a tremendous high school
career. People will be enamored with the
numbers that she has put up offensively the
past four years. More impressive, though, is
her overall game and the value she places on
team. She has a lot of versatility and has
an uncanny ability to knock down the deep
three-pointer. She has also done a
tremendous job in helping her team in other
areas such as rebounding, defense,
distributing the ball, and leadership.”
"Kelli brings a lot to the table and that
is what gets me excited as a coach,” Gregory
added. "She has a lot of talent and will
make our team better. While she is a great
talent, I think she will be a tremendous
person as far as character goes and will be
a great representative of MVNU. I was not
only looking for a talented player, but a
person of strong character and Christian
integrity. We are very pleased that Kelli
has chosen MVNU to continue her development
as a Christian student-athlete.”
In addition to playing basketball at
Mogadore High School, Pollock was a
four-year member of the volleyball team and
was selected as the District Player of the
Year as a senior. She has also earned one
varsity letter in softball. In addition, she
has been on the honor roll every semester
and was inducted into National Honor
Society. She has served as the student
council treasurer and is a S.W.A.T. leader
(Students With A Testimony). She has also
been involved with the Hugh O’Brien Youth
Leadership Conference for two years.

"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Pollock of her college choice.
"I wanted to play basketball and get a good
education. MVNU seems like a great place to
do both of those things and further develop
my relationship with God. The campus, the
Christian atmosphere, the super nice people,
a great Psychology department, and awesome
players all add up to what I think will be a
great fit for me.”
The Lady Cougars, who are an NAIA
Division II school, finished the 2006-2007
season with an 11-17 overall record. | |
