MOUNT
VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s soccer team has added
another key recruit to its roster for the
2007 season with the addition of Rebekah
Blankenship, who has decided to further her
education and continue her soccer career
with the Lady Cougars.Blankenship, a
center midfielder from Kirksville, Missouri,
who will start her senior season in March,
registered a school-record 22 goals and 19
assists as a junior at Kirksville High
School. She also holds the school records
for career goals (48) and assists (48)
through three seasons, and she set the
single-match school record with five
assists. Blankenship, who is a three-time
All-Conference, All-District, and All-Region
First Team selection, was an Honorable
Mention All-State pick as a junior.
"I am very happy that Bekah has committed
to be a Lady Cougar next fall,” said MVNU
head coach Jonathan Meade. "I began
following her over two years ago and we have
been going through the recruiting process
ever since. I know that it was time well
spent because Bekah will be a great addition
to our program.”
"Bekah has a lot of experience playing at
the club level and I expect her to be able
to come in and compete immediately at the
center midfield position,” Meade added. "She
sees the field very well and really does a
nice job moving the ball around. I think she
will have a very nice career as a Lady
Cougar. She also comes from a Nazarene
background and values the opportunity to
learn and grow at a Christian university.
The team and I look forward to her bringing
a strong playing background as well as a
strong commitment to her faith to MVNU next
fall.”
In addition to playing soccer at
Kirksville, Blankenship has also played club
soccer with Columbia Carrera. She has also
been active in Future Business Leaders of
America and the Heartland Task Force for
three years.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Blankenship of her college
choice. "I love the women’s soccer team and
their chemistry. Coach Meade has a great way
of coaching. The academic side of the school
is good as well and they have an excellent
science program.”
MVNU finished the season with a 13-7-2
overall record. The Lady Cougars won the
American Mideast Conference South Division
title, the National Christian College
Athletic Association East Region crown, and
the NCCAA national championship. |
