Lady Cougars Well-Represented on NCCAA All-American Teams

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The old saying 'to the victor goes the spoils' rang true when the National Christian College Athletic Association All-American Teams were recently announced as the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer team had seven players selected as an NCCAA All-American after claiming the 2006 NCCAA national title.

Highlighting the list for the Lady Cougars was senior goalkeeper Krysti Wilson, who was selected to the NCCAA All-American First Team for the third straight year. The former Big Walnut High School standout and Sunbury, Ohio native started all 22 matches for MVNU this season and allowed just 24 goals with six shutouts in posting a 1.05 goals against average. She was also named the Most Valuable Defensive Player at the NCCAA National Tournament after stopping four shots in two shootouts in the team’s final two matches.

Allison Elifritz, a senior midfielder from Westerville, Ohio, joined Wilson on the NCCAA All-American First Team for the second time in her career after being selected as the Most Valuable Player of the NCCAA National Tournament. The former Worthington Christian High School product recorded six goals and three assists this season.

Kristy Brandolini, a junior forward from Twinsburg, Ohio, rounded out the trio of MVNU players on the NCCAA All-American First Team. The former Twinsburg High School star led the Lady Cougars with 16 goals and 12 assists after being an NCCAA Honorable Mention All-American in 2005. She was also a member of the NCCAA All-National Tournament Team this year.

Allie Warnemunde, a senior midfielder from West Chester, Ohio, was selected to the NCCAA All-American Second Team. The former Lakota East High School graduate registered five goals and three assists this year.

Samantha Tomlinson, a junior defender from Tipp City, Ohio, joined Warnemunde on the NCCAA All-American Second Team. The former Tippecanoe High School standout scored her lone goal of the season in the national championship match against The Master’s (Calif.) College to send the match into overtime, and she also tallied nine assists.

Angie Misamore, a freshman defender from Findlay, Ohio, was chosen as an NCCAA Honorable Mention All-American. The former Findlay High School star started all 22 matches for the Lady Cougars this season and helped to anchor the defense that allowed just 24 goals. She was also named to the NCCAA All-National Tournament Team.

Kelly Sgambellone, a sophomore forward from Hilliard, Ohio, was also selected as an NCCAA Honorable Mention All-American. The former Hilliard Darby High School product finished the year with five goals and four assists while also earning a spot on the NCCAA All-National Tournament Team.

In addition to the players, head coach Jonathan Meade was selected as the NCCAA National Coach of the Year for the second time in his career as MVNU posted a 13-7-2 overall record this year and a 7-1-0 American Mideast Conference South Division mark to claim a share of the AMC South Division title for the third time in four years. The Lady Cougars’ NCCAA national title was also the program’s second in the past four years, and Meade has compiled a 103-46-5 record in the seven years of the program’s existence.
