MOUNT
VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s volleyball team has added
an important recruit for the 2007 season
with the addition of Emily Walsh, who has
decided to further her education at MVNU and
continue her volleyball career with the Lady
Cougars.Walsh, a 5-foot-8 outside hitter
from Newark, Ohio, hammered 210 kills in 25
matches as a senior at Licking County
Christian Academy. She also added 32 aces
and had a 96.3 serving percentage. She was a
three-time All-Conference selection and led
Licking County Christian to two conference
titles and one runner-up finish. She was
named to the BCSA All-Tournament Team three
times and was the tournament’s Most Valuable
Player as a junior.
"Emily is outstanding,” said MVNU head
coach Paul Swanson, who became the NAIA’s
all-time wins leader (810) during the 2006
season and has a 795-282 record in 23 years
with the Lady Cougars. "She is an
outstanding person, student, and Christian
young woman. She is also an outstanding
athlete. After being a star three-sport
athlete at LCCA, she will now focus on just
volleyball. We are really looking forward to
her growth as a person and a player.”
"Emily will be a valuable addition to our
team on the court as both an outside hitter
and a backrow player,” Swanson added. "She
will also make a positive addition to our
team with her personality, attitude, and
Christ-like values.”
In addition to playing volleyball,
basketball, and softball at Licking County
Christian, Walsh has been involved in
various activities during her high school
career. She is in Honor Society and has
received the Christian Character Award. She
has also served as both the president and
vice president of Mom’s Ministry and as the
junior class vice president.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Walsh of her college choice. "I
really like the Christian environment and
the people on the campus. I feel like it is
God’s will for my life.”
MVNU posted a 31-18 overall record in
2006 and advanced to the semifinals of the
NAIA Region IX Tournament. The Lady Cougars
have won more than 30 matches in 14 straight
seasons.
