MOUNT
VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University men’s basketball team has signed
another important recruit for the 2007-2008
season with the addition of Brandon Short,
who has decided to further his education and
continue his basketball career with the
Cougars.Short, a 6-foot-1 guard from
Orville, Ohio, averaged 17.6 points, 8.5
rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game as a
senior at Orrville High School. For his
efforts, he was selected as the Ohio
Cardinal Conference co-Player of the Year as
well as being named to the Northeast Inland
First Team, the District 4 First Team, the
Akron Beacon Journal First Team, and
All-Ohio Special Mention.
"Brandon has a great amount of
potential,” said MVNU head coach Scott
Flemming. "He is a coach’s son and he is
from a successful program. Those are two
great attributes to start with. He is a
playmaker on both ends of the floor. He will
be able to play several positions and he
will be right at home in an up-tempo style
of play. Brandon’s personality will also
make him a great teammate and will allow him
to make a positive impact on our campus.”
In addition to playing basketball, Short
is a member of Fellowship of Christian
Athletes. He was selected as the Boy’s Club
Youth of the Year and has also been on the
Honor Roll and received the Renaissance
Program awards.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Short of his college choice. "I
felt it would be a great school to continue
my academics as well as my athletics. When I
went for my first visit, I loved how
everyone was so helpful and interested in
me. I felt right at home while visiting
MVNU. When I met the guys on the team, they
welcomed me as though I was already a part
of the team.”

MVNU finished the season with a 25-7
overall record and was ranked 10th in the
final NAIA Division II poll. The Cougars,
who have topped the 20-win mark in 10 of the
past 11 seasons, won a share of the American
Mideast Conference South Division title,
earned a berth in the NAIA Division II
national tournament, and advanced to the
second round before falling 75-73 to
eventual national champion MidAmerica
Nazarene (Kan.) University.
