MVNU's Murphy Named NCCAA Softball Player
of the Week

MOUNT
VERNON, Ohio - Caitlin Murphy, a member of
the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s
fastpitch softball team, has been selected
as the National Christian College Athletic
Association Player of the Week for her
performance in games played during the week
of April 9-15.Murphy, a freshman catcher
from Gahanna, Ohio, batted .625 (5-for-8) in
a doubleheader sweep of Malone College as
the Lady Cougars rallied in both games for
victories. In the first game, the former
Gahanna Lincoln High School standout went
2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, one RBI, and
three runs scored as MVNU prevailed 7-6 in
eight innings. Then, in the second game,
Murphy went 3-for-4 with one run scored as
the Lady Cougars won 6-3.
On the season, Murphy is batting .376
while starting all 26 games behind the
plate. She has registered seven doubles, two
triples, two home runs, 23 runs scored, and
15 RBI. She has also committed just three
errors in 141 fielding chances and has
thrown out 10 of the 25 runners who have
tried to steal on her. She has also picked
off three other runners.
MVNU is currently 19-7 overall and 5-5 in
the American Mideast Conference South
Division. The Lady Cougars will return to
action on Friday when MVNU will host Geneva
(Pa.) College in a doubleheader starting at
4:00 p.m. as part of the NCCAA East Region
Tournament.
