at MVNU
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT
VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University womens soccer team has added
another key recruit to its roster for the
2007 season with the addition of Jena
Dickerson, who has decided to further her
education and continue her soccer career
with the Lady Cougars.Dickerson, a
forward from Butler, Ohio, registered 19
goals and six assists as a junior at Clear
Fork High School as she was named to the
Ohio Cardinal Conference First Team and the
North Central District First Team as well as
being selected as the Mount Vernon News
Player of the Year. She was also named to
the OCC Second Team and the North Central
District Second Team as a sophomore as she
led Clear Fork in scoring both years. She
did not play as a senior due to recovering
from a torn ACL.
"I am really excited about Jena signing
with us, said MVNU head coach Jonathan
Meade. "She has a wonderful personality to
add to our team chemistry, and she is an
excellent athlete. She has proven to be one
of the top forwards in the area. Her speed,
athleticism, and work ethic will instantly
make an impact on our team. I believe she
will have a great career as a Lady Cougar.
"Jena is just the right fit for MVNU,
Meade added. "Besides her accomplishments on
the soccer field, she has been a fine
student in the classroom. She is also
someone who wants the Christian atmosphere
found here at MVNU. I look forward to
coaching her starting next year.
In addition to playing soccer at Clear
Fork, Dickerson has been involved with SADD,
Knox County Nurses Club, Future Farmers of
America, and CACY. She has also served as a
Knox Community Hospital volunteer and she
was a 2006 Bellville Fair Queen contestant.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU, said Dickerson of her college choice.
"I love the way the soccer team acts like
sisters - they do everything together. I
also love the way that Coach Meade knows
everything about his team, and that builds
team chemistry. I also love the calm
atmosphere of the college and the smaller,
more personable campus size.
MVNU finished the season with a 13-7-2
overall record. The Lady Cougars won the
American Mideast Conference South Division
title, the National Christian College
Athletic Association East Region crown, and
the NCCAA national championship.
