Bellefontaine Soccer Standout Signs to
Play at MVNU
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon
Nazarene University mens soccer team has
signed another important recruit for the 2007
season with the addition of Rockey Cane, who
has decided to further his education and
continue his soccer career at MVNU.

Cane, a forward from Bellefontaine, Ohio,
registered 24 goals and eight assists in 20
matches as a senior at Bellefontaine High
School as the team won its first-ever
district title. He was a two-time
All-Conference First Team and All-Logan
County First Team selection, and he was also
named to the All-Sectional First Team and
the All-Miami Valley District First Team as
a senior in addition to being the Logan
County Player of the Year.
"Rockey will help us fill one of our key
needs next year as a speedy front runner,
said MVNU head coach Paul Furey. "He had a
superb senior year scoring some big goals in
big matches. He has the pace and hunger to
produce up front. We are very excited about
what he will bring to our squad.
"One thing that is special about our 2007
recruiting class is that we seem to have
found not only good players, but congenial
personalities that fit in well with our
team, Furey added. "Rockey is a quality
young man, who is the kind of person we want
on our team. He has been involved in his
church and is well-respected in his
hometown. Rockey will do well at MVNU on and
off the field.
In addition to playing soccer at
Bellefontaine High School, Cane has been a
member of the Elite-FC Club Soccer Team
based out of Marysville. He is the first
Bellefontaine High School soccer player to
sign to play college soccer.
"There are several reasons why I decided
to attend MVNU, said Cane of his college
choice. "I chose MVNU first of all because
the people were very accepting and easy to
get along with. I felt comfortable and at
home and was also impressed with the Graphic
Design department, which is the major of my
choice. I like the fact that it is a
Christian school with a calm atmosphere. I
am looking forward to continuing my soccer
career with Coach Furey and the MVNU soccer
team. My family and I consider it a blessing
to have the opportunity to attend MVNU - a
place where I can pursue my academic as well
as my athletic dreams.
MVNU finished the 2006 season with a
7-10-1 overall record and a 4-4-0 mark in
the highly competitive American Mideast
Conference South Division.
